Alimony or support payments received

The program allows you to enter alimony or support payments received (for yourself and/or for your dependant child or children, whichever case applies).

To enter the amounts received pertaining to alimony or support payments, please follow these steps:

1. On the "Left side menu on the Interview tab", select "Interview setup".

2. On the right-hand side of the screen, go to the "Parents and children" group, check the box "Alimony or support payments" and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.

3. Return to the "Left side menu on the Interview tab", select the "Alimony or support payments" section, and in the screen on the right choose the line "Support payments received by you".

4. On the page entitled "Support received from your ex-   spouse," enter all relevant information, specifically the two   following lines, "Total support payment  received in 2021 (including the non-taxable   child support expected for 2021)" and the "Non-taxable child support expected for 2021 ".

The program will report these amounts to line 12799 and 12800 of the federal return. It should be noted that only the amount on line 12800 is taxable.

For residents of Quebec, the program will report only the taxable amount on line 142 of the Quebec return.
