Non-resident spouse NetFile

If your spouse is a non-resident and does not have a social insurance number, you must enter a SIN as per the following format: 000-000-000.

When you click on the "Revision" tab, in your file, go to the column on your left, and select "Message". The software will inform you of certain errors.

However, note that it will not be possible for you to file your Quebec return electronically via NetFile, because the taxpayer's non-resident spouse has a SIN (social insurance number) that starts with 0. However, your federal return, can be filed electronically.

Naturally, your spouse must report their income, but cannot file any tax return in Canada. His or her income will simply help determine the credits for which you may be eligible.
