Tax credit for home-support services for seniors - Private senior's residence

You may be entitled to a refundable tax credit for expenses related to home-support services if you meet both of the following conditions:

a) You resided in Quebec on December 31st of the tax year.
b) You were at least 70 years old on December 31st of the tax year.

If you reached the age of 70 in the tax year, you can claim the tax credit only for the expenses incurred from the time you turned 70.

To claim this tax credit, follow the steps below:

1- On the left side menu of the "Interview" tab of the family head's file, select the "Senior home support" section will be generated, even if the family head is aged under 70.

2- In the "Senior home support" section, on the right-hand side of the screen, you must select the option that is appropriate for your situation, in this case "He lived in a private senior's residence".
3- Complete this page according to the details displayed on your lease regarding services provided by your residence as well as according to your situation.

You will notice that when the family head is aged under 70, the Quebec Schedule J is generated in the file of the person claiming the tax credit for home support for seniors.

You have probably sent to the government a copy of your lease in order to receive a monthly advance payment. If so, you should have received an RL-19 slip with an amount showing on Box D. To enter the amount from the RL-19 slip, follow these steps:

1- On the left side menu of the "Interview" tab choose the line "Other information slips".
2- In the screen that appears on your right, choose the option labeled "RL-19 - Advanced payments".
3- Complete the new page that has been generated according to the information on the RL-19 slip you have received. In this case, you must enter the amount that is entered in the " Box D - Advanced payments of the tax credit for home- support services for seniors".

Schedule J will be generated by the program, indicating the services for which you claim a credit.

The advance payment you receive will be entered on line 441 of the income tax return for Quebec.

While the refundable tax credit for home support for seniors will be entered on line 458 of the Quebec return.
