Volunteer Opportunity - Refundable Credit - Line 462 - Québec

A volunteer is a person who provides respite services, to the caregiver of a person with a significant disability. The disability, of the care recipient defined as a severe and prolonged impairment of mental or physical function and who is 18 years of age or older.

You must have provided at least 200 hours of volunteer respite care for the care recipient during the year.

Beginning with the 2018 taxation year, changes were made to further support caregivers.

A) A maximum of $250 for a person who offers at least 200 hours of volunteer respite services.

B) A maximum of $500 to a person who offers at least 300 hours of volunteer respite services.

C) A maximum of $750 for a person who offers at least 400 hours of volunteer respite services.

The caregiver must have provided you with a RL-23 slip, which indicates the beneficiary's name and date of birth. The name of the caregiver must be listed as well as his/her address.

The caregiver who must provide the RL- 23 slip must consult the following sites:

These two links will allow the caregiver to properly prepare the RL- 23 slip which must be given to the volunteer, so that the volunteer can claim his or her refundable credit for his efforts.

To claim this refundable credit, the volunteer must follow the procedure below:

1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select the "Other information slips" section.

2. On the right-hand page, click on the plus sign "+" icon located on the right-hand side of the line "RL-23 -Tax credit for volunteer respite services (Quebec line 462)".

3. On the page that appears, enter the amount from Box C of the RL-23 slip and other requested information.

The refundable credit will be carried over on your Quebec return on line 462 with code 20 on line 461.
