Ontario Trillium BenefitThe Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) includes payments from the Ontario sales tax credit, the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit and the Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant.
The payments of these four credits will be combined to better match with the expenses incurred by the taxpayers. You must apply and be eligible for at least one of these credits to receive the OTB.
If you have a spouse that ordinarily resides with you, only one of you can claim the credit.
You can choose to receive one lump sum payment in the year or payments on a monthly basis.
This credit is in addition to the GST / HST credit.
To claim the OTB using the program, please follow these steps:
1- On the left side menu of the "Interview tab" select "Ontario tax credits".
2- On the screen that appears to your right, select "ON-BEN - Application for the 2020 Ontario Trillium Benefit (Ontario sales tax credit, Ontario energy and property tax credit, Northern Ontario energy credit) and the Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant".
3- On the new page that appears, for the first question, select whether you wish to apply for this credit. If you select Yes, another question appears asking if you wish to apply for the Northern Ontario energy credit (NOEC). If you select No, simply answer the questions on the page as they apply to your situation.
4- Then return to the left side of the screen and click on "Ontario tax credits" again, and on the page that appears to the right in the ON-BEN Declaration(s)section, select whichever corresponds to your situation. Enter your information.
The program produces an estimate of the Trillium benefit for July_2020 to June 2021.
