Volunteer firefighters' amount - Newfoundland and LabradorYou can claim this non-refundable tax credit if you met the conditions for claiming the amount on line 31220 of federal Step 5. If you qualify for this credit, the amount will be reported by the program on line 58315 of Form NL-428.
Please follow the steps below:
1. In the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select "T4 and employment income".
2. On the screen to your right, choose ''T4 income (earned in any province except Quebec)''.
3. Enter the details of your T4 slip. To enter the information for Box 87, scroll down the page to ''Other information (click on the triangle to see the list of choices)'' and choose ''Box 87 - Volunteer firefighter exempt amount'' and enter the amount from Box 87 of your T4.
4. Return to ''T4 and employment income'' under the "Left side menu on the Interview tab" and on the screen to your right, go to the second group, "Other" and choose "Volunteer firefighters' amount and search and rescue volunteer amount" option and click the plus sign "+" on your right.
5. On the page that appears, choose your option for the line ''Select the type of emergency services volunteers'' and from the drop-down menu on your right, choose the appropriate option, in your case "Volunteer firefighter".
6. For the line "Indicate how you wish to handle the federal firefighters' amount and search and rescue volunteer'', choose the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. The program will indicate "Let MaxBack decide'' by default.
7. However, if you choose the option "Do not claim the volunteer firefighters' amount" from the drop-down menu, the program will not increase your income with the amount of the exemption in Box 87 of the T4 and will not grant the credit on line 31220 of federal Step 5.

Note: As a volunteer firefighter, you may be entitled to an exemption of income of up to $ 1,000. However, if you choose to claim this exemption, you will not be eligible for the volunteer firefighters' amount. This exemption corresponds to Box 87 of your T4.
