Microsoft ending support

Microsoft announced that they will end support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2 on January 14, 2020. They will no longer provide security updates or technical support for systems running Windows 7 or 2008/2008 R2 servers after January 14. See Microsoft's Windows 7 announcement External link and Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 announcement External link for more information.

What does this mean for me?

Thomson Reuters will no longer support its products on Windows 7 operating systems or Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 beginning January 14, 2020. We therefore strongly urge you to upgrade any workstations or servers that require access to Thomson Reuters products to a supported operating system prior to January 14. This includes DT Professional Suite products (DT Max, DT FormMax, DT Practice, and DT FileCabinet) on desktop and SaaS environments, DT Client Portal, DT Web Builder, and Onvio.

SaaS

SaaS firms' data and applications are hosted on supported Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft SQL versions as we adhere to Microsoft's published product End of Life schedules. It is important that the workstations used to access SaaS are running supported versions of Windows as well. Unsupported Microsoft Operating Systems will no longer receive security updates from Microsoft which may leave an Internet connected workstation vulnerable. See below for more information on why these security updates are important.

Why is it important to update?

Working on these environments past January 14, 2020 increases your security risks, degrades performance, and leaves your firm vulnerable to attack and exploitation. Upgrading your server(s) and workstation(s) safeguards you and your client data. Considering how cybercriminals target accounting firms for sensitive information, the risks are significant. Given the timing of the end of support and tax season, we strongly recommend addressing this as soon as possible.

For more information about protecting your firm and clients from cybercriminals and security threats, please consult with a qualified IT professional.
