Override

When you use a tax program, or any other software, you may want or need to be able to change what the program has done.

In tax preparation, this frequently occurs because the tax professional often deals with information that he has not entered into the client's data himself.

However, you must take great care in using overrides as there are dangers inherent with this power.

Our field overrides can override any field/line on the federal or Quebec jackets of the trust income tax return.

The overrides do not cover every line or keying field in the trust return, nor do they enable DT Max to go backwards and fix the supporting schedules, but they supply the knowledgeable user with a powerful tool to make sure that the tax return meets his standards and requirements.

Field overrides are return-specific. A federal field override will not affect a Quebec return in any way whatsoever, and vice versa. Overrides affect all calculations that takes place after they appear, but none before. You must, therefore, verify and check for consistency.

Secondary keywordField-Currency

Use the keyword Field-Currency to tell DT Max which field or line number is to be overridden, and to specify the desired amount for that field or line number.

First enter the field or line number to override, and then the amount of the override.

Example 1: override federal T3 line 1 to $25,000.00

OVERRIDE Federal T3 return FIELD-CURRENCY 1 25000.00

NB: If you also want to override the Quebec TP-646 line 53, you must specify it separately. The override option "Federal T3" does not affect the "Quebec TP-646":

OVERRIDE Quebec TP-646 FIELD-CURRENCY 53 25000.00

Secondary keywordField-Date

Use the keyword Field-Date to tell DT Max which field or line number is to be overridden, and to specify the desired date for that field or line number.

First enter the date, and then the field or line number to override.

Example 1: override federal T3 line 150 to 2007-12-31

OVERRIDE Federal T3 return FIELD-DATE 31-12-2007 150

Secondary keywordField-Percent

Use the keyword Field-Percent to tell DT Max which field or line number is to be overridden, and to specify the desired percentage for that field or line number.

First enter the field or line number, and then the percentage to override.

Example 1: override federal T3MJ line 6 to 50%.

OVERRIDE Federal T3MJ FIELD-PERCENT 6 50

Secondary keywordField-Tick

Use the keyword Field-Tick to tell DT Max which field or line number is to be overridden, and to specify whether or not the field or line number is to be ticked or unticked.

Example 1: override federal T3 field number 1147 to be ticked

OVERRIDE Federal T3 return FIELD-TICK 1147
