Recalculate the tax return

It's good practice to recalculate a tax return before sending via EFILE.

Changes to client data, preferences or settings, will be reflected in a tax return only after the return is recalculated (Alt+F9 or Tools > Recalculate current client).

Check authorization forms

Verify that all parts to be completed on the authorisation forms T-183 and TP-1000 correspond to your settings and/or preferences (especially part D on the T-183 form). Make sure your client signs them before the EFILE transmission.

Verify EFILE acknowledgements

An EFILE return is acknowledged when you have an acknowledgement in hand, preferably a printed copy (EFILE > View and print EFILE reports). Verify that the EFILE acknowledgement matches the client(s) you are finalizing.

Close all finalized returns

After verifying the acknowledgement, check the box for "File closed" (Management -> Status information). The client's processing status in the client list will show "File closed". Make sure to close files for finalized paper returns as well. This applies for that specific year only.

This is a very important step. At the end of the tax season, any client record that is not closed must be investigated. As a bonus, the status summary will give you an exact count of the number of returns processed to date (in paper form and via EFILE).

Technical note: If you send via EFILE from multiple databases or are considering doing so, you run the risk of compromising the EFILE acknowledgement process. Please call the help desk if this applies to you.
