Spouse - Newcomers to Canada - Immigrants

You are a resident of Canada and your spouse immigrated to Canada during the tax year.

As a first step, you must indicate in your file that your spouse has joined you. To do this, follow these steps:

2 - In the screen on the right, under "Other personal situations", check "Immigrant, emigrant, non resident taxpayer, you are a canadian resident and your spouse immigrated to Canada in the year" and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.
3 - Return to the "QuikClik Navigator " and select the "Immigrant, emigrant, non-resident". Then, in the screen on your right, choose the line, "You are a canadian resident and your spouse immigrated to Canada in 2013".
4 - In the new page that opens, on the line "Your net income while you were living in Canada with your spouse" specify your net income while you lived with your spouse, as only this amount will be considered to apply the spousal amount on line 303 of the federal return.

Thereafter, complete your return.
