Create a new file
You can create a new file using any of the following methods:
Menu: From the File menu, select Create new file,
Toolbar: Click the Create a new file icon on the toolbar , OR
Start page: Click the New file button on the Start page.
In the pop-up window that appears, set the following items to the desired values before clicking the OK button. The program will remember your selections the next time you create a new file.
Year - Set the tax year.
Client type - Choose the legal entity type for your client, which can be either Individual, Corporate, Partnership, or Trust.
Document type - This controls which forms/slips/fields will be available.
All forms (federal and Quebec):
Used mainly in Quebec.
Both federal and Quebec forms/slips will be available for selection when adding forms/slips to a recipient or a client.
Both federal and Quebec fields will be enabled in data entry forms.
Both federal and Quebec slips will be shown on the Recipient slip default values page of the Client preferences.
Only federal forms:
This option is only available for 2015 and later tax years.
Used mainly in Canada outside of Quebec.
Only federal forms/slips will be available for selection when adding forms/slips to a recipient or a client.
Only federal fields will be enabled in data entry forms.
Only federal slips will be shown on the Recipient slip default values page of the Client preferences.
Relevé 31 (Quebec only) (Instructions for completing)
This option is only available for 2015 and later tax years.
This is only used for preparing Relevé 31 slips for rental properties in Quebec.
The Quebec Relevé 31 slip is the only slip available, and is automatically added when adding recipients.
The Quebec Relevé 31 summary is the only form available, and is automatically added to the client when the file is created.
Both federal and Quebec fields will be enabled in data entry forms.
The Client preferences section is not available.
The add/delete forms menu items and toolbar icons are not available.
When preparing slips for electronic transmission, the federal section is not available.
