You can claim this amount if you were 65 years of age or older on December 31, 2016, and your net income (line 236 of your return) is less than $81,847.

If your net income is:

• $35,927 or less, enter $6,888 on line 5808; or

• more than $35,927 but less than $81,847, complete the calculation for line 5808 on the Territorial Worksheet in this book.
