Volunteer firefighter's tax credit - NunavutIf you were a volunteer firefighter in Nunavut at the end of the tax year, you are entitled to a non-refundable tax credit.
You can claim this credit if you meet all the following conditions:
* You were a resident of Nunavut at the end of the year:
* You were a volunteer firefighter for a minimum of six (6) months in 2019 :
* You completed a minimum of 200 hours of community service (that includes training) in 2019 :
* You did not receive salary, wages or compensation, other than reasonable reimbursement or allowance for expenses in respect of firefighting services in 2019 and
* You were listed as a volunteer firefighter on the report filed by the chief of the volunteer fire department.To claim this tax credit (line 62290 of Form NU428), please follow these steps:
1. You must have entered the Federal portion of your credit as a volunteer firefighter on line 31220 of Step 5.
2. In the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", on the left-hand side of the screen, select "Nunavut tax credits".
3. On the screen to your right, select the option "NU428 line 62290 - Volunteer firefighters' tax credit".
4. On the newly generated page, for the line ''Are you eligible to the volunteer firefighters' tax credit?'', select "Yes" from the drop-down menu.
