Status Indian - Old Age Security Benefits
The Canada Revenue Agency considers that Old Age Security
benefits, including the Guaranteed Income Supplement, are taxable
income because these amounts are not related to a job that has been
held in the past.
Therefore, if you receive a T4A (OAS) slip with amounts in boxes
18 and 21, these amounts are considered taxable income and you must
file your Income Tax and Benefit Return.
To enter your Old Age Security benefit, follow these steps:
1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab"
select the section "Pension income, T4A".
2. On the right-hand side of the screen, click on
the plus sign "+" icon
to the right of the line "T4A(OAS) - Old age security
income".
3. Enter the amounts shown on your T4A(OAS) slip.
4. The Old Age Security pension amount will be reported by the
program on line 11300 of the federal return.
Quebec residents must enter their information for
the "Quebec drug insurance plan". For this
section, you must specify your situation by selecting option
"4 - Exceptions, Quebec prescription drug insurance plan,
all year" and specify by choosing "Registered
Indian (code 24)".
