amount
You can claim this refundable tax credit if you
met the rules for claiming the amount on line 31220 of
Federal Step 5. If you qualify for this credit, it will be
reported by the program on line 63510 of Form PE428.
Please follow the steps below:
1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview
tab", select "T4 and employment income".
2. On the screen to your right, choose ''T4 income
(earned in any province except Quebec)''.
3. Enter the details of your T4 slip. To enter the
information from Box 87, scroll down the page to ''Other
information (click on the drop-down menu to see the list of
choices)'', choose ''Box 87 - Volunteer firefighter exempt
amount'' and enter the amount from Box 87 of your T4.
4. Return to the ''T4 and employment income''
option and on the screen to your right, go to the second group,
"Other", choose the "Volunteer firefighters' amount and
search and rescue volunteer amount" option and click the plus
sign "+" on your right.
5. On the page that appears, choose the line
''Select the type of emergency services volunteers'' from
the drop-down menu to your right and select the appropriate
option.
6. For the line "Indicate how you wish to handle
the federal firefighters' amount and search and rescue
volunteer'', choose the appropriate option from the drop-down
menu. By default, the program will indicate "Let MaxBack
decide''.
7. However, if you choose the option "Do not claim
the volunteer firefighters' amount" from the drop-down menu,
the program will not increase your income with the amount of the
exemption in Box 87 of the T4 slip and will not grant the credit on
line 362 of federal Schedule 1.

Note: As a volunteer firefighter, you may be entitled to
an exemption of income of up to $1,000. However, if you choose to
claim this exemption, you will not be eligible to the volunteer
firefighters' amount. This exemption is identified in Box 87 of the
T4 slip.
