Food Bank tax credit for farmers - Ontario
You can claim the community food program donation tax credit for
farmers if all of the following apply:
1. You were a
resident of Ontario at the end of the year.
2. You or your
spouse or common-law partner was a farmer.
3. You made a
qualifying donation to an eligible community food program in the
year.
4. You claimed
the qualifying donation on line 34900 of
your federal Schedule 9 and on
line 34 of your
form ON428 as a charitable donation or
gift for the year.
A qualifying donation is a donation
of one or more agricultural products produced in Ontario and
donated to an eligible community food program in Ontario.

To enter this additional credit, do the following:
1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview
tab", select the "Interview setup".
2. On the page that appears to the right, go to the
"Common Tax Deductions" group, check the box for
"Donations and federal political contributions"
and click "Next".
3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview
tab" and select the "Donations / political
contributions".
4. On the right page, click the plus sign "+"
icon to the right of the line "Community food program
donation tax credit for farmers (Ontario resident)".
5. On the page that appears, enter the relevant information.
However, if you want to share donations between spouses, you
need to follow this small procedure.
1. Return to the "Donations / political
contributions", on the screen on your right, scroll down
to the "Sharing and optimization" group, and click the plus
sign "+" icon located to the right of the line
"Sharing donations between spouses and optimization of
donations".
2. On the page that appears, choose the option that corresponds
to your situation.
Your federal credit will be carried over by the program on
line 34900 of Schedule
9 of the federal return and on
line 34 of
form ON428.
The Community food program donation tax credit for farmers will
be carried over by the program on
line 79 of
form ON428.
