Contributions to your RRSP you can deduct for
2019
For 2019, you can deduct contributions you made to your RRSP or
SPP between January 1, 1991 and the first sixty (60) days of
2020.
Furthermore, you can also deduct contributions you made to your
PRPP between January 1, 2019, and the first sixty (60) days of 2020
(do not include your employer's contributions). You can deduct
these contributions if you did not deduct them for any other year,
and if they do not exceed your RRSP deduction limit for 2019.
However, if you forgot to include your contributions
from the first sixty (60) days from last year, you must
request an adjustment of your tax return.
To do so, please follow these steps:
1. In the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select
"Interview setup".
2. On the page that appears to the right, go to the
"Other topics" group, check the box for
"Adjustment request for a tax return that has been filed"
and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.
3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab",
and select "Adjustment request" at the bottom of the list
and, on the right-hand side of the screen, select the form that you
need, either the ''T1-ADJ adjust a federal tax return for 2018
or a previous year'' or for Quebec residents the
''TP-1.R adjust a Quebec tax return for 2019 or a previous
year''
NOTE: You cannot submit an adjustment request form
electronically via NETFILE. You must print and mail the T1-ADJ
and/or the TP-1.R, as well as copies of all relevant documentation
justifying the adjustment.
If you wish, you can also visit the CRA website and go to the
section "My Account" to correct your tax return.
