Nova-Scotia - Tax credit for volunteers and ground
search and recue
If you were a volunteer firefighter or a search and rescue
ground volunteer in Nova Scotia at the end of the tax year, you are
entitled to a refundable tax credit of $500.
You can claim this credit if you meet all the following
conditions:
* You were a resident of Nova Scotia on December
31, 2021
* You were a volunteer firefighter or a ground search and
rescue volunteer for a minimum of six (6) months during the
period January 1 to December 31, 2021;
* You did not receive any salary, wage, or compensation other
than reasonable reimbursement or allowance for expenses; and
* If you were a volunteer firefighter, you were listed as a
volunteer firefighter on the report filed by the chief of the
volunteer fire department.
To claim the credit (line 62400of Form NS428), please follow
these steps:
1. You must have completed the Federal portion of entering
your tax credit for volunteer firefighter on line
361220 or voluntary search and rescue
volunteer on line 31240 of Step 5 of the federal
returns.
2. On the "Left-side menu of the Interview tab", select
"Nova Scotia tax and credits".
3. On the screen to your right, select the option "NS428 line
62400 - Nova Scotia volunteer firefighters and ground search and
rescue tax credit".
4. On the newly generated page, for the line "Are you
eligible to the volunteer firefighters and ground search and rescue
tax credit?", select "Yes" from the drop-down menu.
