Self-employment income - Short term car rental -
Quebec
For Quebec residents, Revenu Québec has not foreseen
in the IN -155 guide "Business and professional
income ", the possibility of short-term rental of a motor
vehicle following repairs or any other causes making your usual
vehicle unusable.
To allow you to claim this expense, please follow these
steps:
1. On the "Left side menu of the Interview tab", select
the item "Self-employment income", and on the right-hand
side page, choose the option that suits you.
2. Fill out the pages "T2125 - Business
identification" and "Income, expenses".
3. On the sub-section "Motor vehicle expenses" on the
right-hand side of the page, select the type of vehicle you are
using.
4. On the line "Short term car rental fees (100%)", enter
the amount you are claiming for the federal. For Quebec, click the
"Maple leaf" icon and enter $0.00 in the new field.
5. Return to the line "Maintenance and repair for the
year". You probably entered an amount for the maintenance or
repair; otherwise enter $0.00. Click on the "Maple Leaf"
icon, and in the field for Quebec, add your short-term rental costs
to the cost of maintenance and repair.
If you follow these steps, you will NOT have the Warning
"(F53) You entered a vehicle rental fees from a business",
indicating that you cannot submit your Quebec return via NetFile
Quebec.
