Claiming the Quebec tuition tax credit for the
transfer of the non-refundable tax credit to the spouse
We have corrected the program to allow you to claim your Quebec
tuition and increase the non-refundable tax credit that may be
transferred to your spouse.
Please follow this procedure:
1. In your file under the heading "Left-side menu on the
Interview tab", select the heading "Tuition, education,
student loans".
2. On the right-side page, click on
the plus sign "+" icon
located to the right of the line "T2202 Tuition and
enrolment certificate (TL11A and TL11C) (line 32300)".
3. On the page entitled "Tuition, education and textbook
amounts", enter your tuition fees in section "T2202, TL11A,
TL11C. Eligible tuition fees, part-time and full-time
sessions".
4. Enter the information from Box A of
your Quebec RL-8 slip.
5. Next, go to the "Tax Return" tab and
check line 45 of Schedule T to know
the qualifying "Credit for tuition or examination
fees" for the tax year.
6. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview
tab" and select the "Tuition, education and textbook
amounts" page. Go to the paragraph "If you wish to
claim a specific amount of credit for tuition or examination fees
used on Quebec Schedule T, enter the amount here. Otherwise leave
the fields blank", and at the line "Credit at the rate of
8%" enter the amount of credit that you wish to claim.
This amount will be carried over by the program on line 398
"Tax credit for tuition or examination fees, Complete Schedule
T".
This credit will increase your "Non-refundable Tax
Credits" and if these credits are higher than your taxable
income tax, it will be carried over to line 431 for "Credits
transferred from one spouse to other".
