during which you were either a CONTRIBUTOR or NOT A CONTRIBUTOR. To
enter this information in the program, follow these steps:
1- On the "Left side menu on the Interview tab", select
the "Interview setup".
2- On the screen appearing to the right, go to the
"Pension" group, check the box for "Pension income. Other
income and split pension Income (T4A, T4A(OAS), T4A(P), T4A-RCA,
T4RSP, T4RIF, T1032)".
3- Return to the "Left side menu on the Interview tab",
select "Pension income, T4A". On the right page, choose
"T4A - Pension, retirement, annuity, and other income"
option.
4- On the page that appears entitled "T4A - Pension,
retirement, annuity and other income" go to the line "Box
032 - RPP contributions (past service) (Include portions
below)", enter in the first field the total amount shown on
your T4A slip. Then, in the next two fields, enter the portion of
this total that is used for contributions " - Portion of
Box 032 for pre-1990 (contributor)" or " - Portion of
Box 032 for pre-1990 (non-contributor)".
The software will generate the federal RPP deduction schedule
as well as the one for Quebec (if applicable), and the
amounts will be carried over to line 20700 of the federal
return and to line 205 of the Quebec return.
Please note, that the maximum amount deductible with respect to
past services for a RPP is different between federal ($3,500) and
Quebec ($5,500). The amount of contribution entered in Box
20 of the T4 Slip or Box C of the RL-1 is not affected by a maximum
amount.
